Supported by the C2B2 expert middleware consultant on site, UCAS successfully ran the university admission process without downtime or operational incidents, providing real time feedback to end users on application performance. The process was performed on a scalable, secure hybrid cloud solution. As a result UCAS was able to confirm the  placement of 385,910 students into higher education on A level results day.

To ensure the UCAS project success, a C2B2 expert consultant, working with on-site engineers and architects, undertook the following responsibilities:

  • Contributed C2B2 middleware expertise to the migration of a number of UCAS’s core products and services to a hybrid cloud offering
  • Performed application performance engineering
  • Aided identification and execution of pathways to meeting NFRs whilst testing
  • Provided key design decisions around the underlying Java Middleware containers to migrate from legacy onsite systems to a supportable, scalable cloud platform
  • Identified and executed a strategy to migrate requisite applications to versions of Java and application containers that are supported by enterprise vendors in the cloud
  • Blended AWS automation into the solution; CloudFormation is now leveraged to script the middleware environment build 
  • Aided Oracle applications version migration
  • Contributed to the design and implementation for a cloud based, scalable monitoring and alerting system
  • Implemented a series of user-experience monitors to enable proactive issue diagnosis during peak load
